Bainbridge Island is an island in Puget Sound, a 35-minute ferry ride from downtown Seattle.  It is an incorporated city in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The island's population was 20,300 at the 2000 census.

In July 2005, CNN/Money and Money magazine named Bainbridge Island the second-best place to live in the United States.

Its crime rate is also significantly below the national average, ranking among the lowest in the Seattle metropolitan area.

When Bainbridge Island Youth Soccer Club (BIYSC) signed up for the Byte Size Coaching program they wanted a more specific curriculum to mirror what they were doing in their Academy program.  Bainbridge Island Soccer Academy (BISA) is the training arm of BIYSC, providing a comprehensive suite of soccer coaching, training, and education services.

Unlike most clubs, the Bainbridge Island Soccer "Academy" reaches all players through the various BIYSC programs.

One of the reasons that our original Byte Size Coaching program was not themed session-by-session for a particular skill or aspect of the game, such as shooting, passing, receiving, is that most of the coaches getting the greatest benefit from the Byte Size Coaching program were and still are, busy Moms and Dads, who may not have played soccer or may not have coached before.  They want something that works and guarantees fun without having to take extensive licensing courses in their already full lives and our "Standard" Byte Size Coaching program does just that.

So we built in a progressive all-round development curriculum into the practice plans to ensure that in each session there was not only development, but enough variety to keep the players' interest.

BIYSC works a bit differently.  For starters they have 6 professional coaches working in their club system.

Phil Avison and Grant Clark share the Head Coach roles.  John Wedge is the Programs Director.  Hansy Lopes is the goalkeeping specialist.  James Ritchie and George Vudic complete the coaching team.  Each of the 6 coaches has responsibility for specific areas of the club coach and player development programs.  Click here to find out more about the coaching staff.

John Wedge leads the 10-week recreation season that begins in early September.  So he is working with the new Byte Size Coaching platform right now and is directing us to customize the content specifically to the curriculum that will be used by the upcoming BIYSC recreation program.

With the extensive qualifications and experience of the coaching staff at BIYSC, and with their 6-man team, they are able to give much more hands-on direction to the team coaches at practice.

So with the old Byte Size Coaching we were able to do some customization of content.  Now we will be able to do a whole lot more - if a club or community soccer organizations wants it.  If not, we have the "standard" program which will be constantly updated.  After all, we are supposed to know a bit about coaching.
